Guinness-Compliant Rules For The Cypher
1. Cypher Eligibility Requirements
All participating MCs must:
- Be officially registered through the Hip Hop Foundation website.
- Agree to NO CURSING / NO PROFANITY / NO SLURS during their verse.
- Submit pre-written, practiced bars (no freestyling allowed).
- Confirm identity during check-in (match name to QR code).
- Wear an official Cypher ID wristband at all times.
2. Cypher Performance Rules (Strict Guinness Requirements)
To achieve the record:
A. Continuous Flow Rule
- The cypher cannot stop at any time.
- Each MC must begin immediately after the previous MC’s final bar.
- A Steward monitors “no break between artists.”
B. Minimum Rap Duration
Guinness will specify the minimum per-participant time (usually 30–60 sec).
Your structure ensures this by bar-counting:
- 16 bars = 40–50 sec approx.
C. No Profanity Rule
ZERO curses anywhere in the Cypher. This includes:
- No “7 words”
- No racial slurs
- No sexual profanity
- No derogatory language directed at groups
Penalty:
If an MC curses, the entire cypher attempt becomes invalid. To prevent this:
- A 3-Layer Profanity Protection System
- Artists must submit lyrics in advance for profanity check.
- Artists go through a mandatory no-cursing orientation video.
- Stewards can immediately remove an MC if they violate the rule.
D. No Freestyling Rule
WHY?
Freestyles risk pauses, mistakes, or curses → breaks the continuity.
Rule:
✔ All verses must be memorized, structured, and rehearsed.
✔ Artists must agree to 16 bar count before the event.
✔ Stewards confirm bar length before the mic is handed over.
