What Is the Graffiti Lounge Cypher Club?
The Graffiti Lounge Cypher Club is a weekly Hip Hop program that brings together emcees, producers, radio host, podcasters, entrepreneurs, cultural historians, local businesses and neighborhood residents. The program is designed specifically for artists who want to improve their performance discipline and become candidates for a proposed 2027 world-record cypher. Participating emcees will practice:
- Delivering original 16-bar verses
- Performing within an assigned time limit
- Entering and exiting the cypher on cue
- Following a scheduled performance order
- Performing over original instrumentals
- Remaining on beat
- Respecting fellow artists and event personnel
- Working with DJs, producers and audio engineers
- Performing without full lead-vocal recordings
- Preparing for larger public events
The purpose is not simply to determine who can rap the loudest. The Cypher Club will identify artists who demonstrate lyrical ability, originality, professionalism, consistency, stage discipline and respect for Hip Hop culture.
The Illest Indie Hour Opening Artist Feature
One artist currently receiving airplay on The Illest Indie Hour on 105.1 FM The Beat will open the event with a focused live performance. This will also be filmed and audio recorded to play as a “live at the graffiti lounge version” of a song being played on the Illest Indie Hour On 105.1FM The Beat. The opening artist will perform approximately 3 songs during a 10- to 12-minute set. The Illest Indie Hour Opening Artist Feature connects independent radio exposure with a professional live-performance opportunity.
Graffiti Lounge Producer Lab Showcase
Graffiti Lounge Producer Lab Showcase
One featured producer will present original instrumentals created in their studio or production lab. The producer will receive:
- Introduce their production background
- Explain their musical style
- Play selected beat samples
- Promote their beat store or production services
- Share their social media and contact information
- Introduce the beats being used during the cypher
- Participate in a short Prospective Podcast interview
Original Beats Built in the Lab and Tested in the Cypher
The producer’s name, logo, social media and QR code may be included on the weekly flyer, website listing, venue signage and digital promotions. The featured producer will supply a selection of clean, performance-ready original beats. The producer retains ownership of all music. Participation provides permission for the instrumentals to be used during the live Cypher Club session and approved short-form promotional content. Any artist who wants to record, release, distribute or monetize a song using one of the beats must negotiate a separate agreement directly with the producer. This structure protects the producer’s intellectual property while creating legitimate opportunities for artist-producer collaboration.
How The Graffiti Lounge Cypher Works
Road to the Record Cypher: Round One
Registered emcees enter the cypher in their assigned order. Each participant will perform one original 16-bar verse over an instrumental supplied by the featured producer.
