Are you a college intern or community volunteer passionate about media production, storytelling, and civic engagement? The Hip Hop Foundation's new video segment series, "Who Reps You," is seeking skilled and motivated volunteer videographers to join our team!
About the Project:
"Who Reps You" is a weekly video segment on the Hipolitics Weekly Radio Show on WJYN Uptown Radio 98.5 FM airing in April of 2025. In each episode, we take our audience into the offices of Philadelphia’s State Representatives, where our host engages with leaders from both major parties. Through in-depth interviews, the segment explores how state reps impact local communities—covering essential issues from economic justice and police reform to the significance of arts in schools.
As a volunteer videographer, you’ll gain hands-on experience in:
Filming On-Location
Capture high-quality video of interviews conducted in the offices of State Representatives, working closely with the host to ensure impactful visuals that enhance the interview content.
Lighting and Sound
Utilize lighting and audio equipment to ensure clarity and professionalism in every shot, adapting to different settings and optimizing each recording session.
Video Editing
Edit footage to produce compelling, concise content for broadcast on Hipolitics Weekly and social media. This includes selecting the best takes, adding graphics, and enhancing sound and visuals for the final cut.
Storytelling
Help convey the purpose and passion behind each episode. Showcase the representative’s role and their commitment to the community, making complex civic topics relatable and engaging for a diverse audience.
Build Your Portfolio
Create high-quality video content that will be broadcast to the public, adding valuable work to your resume.
Develop Real-World Skills
Work with professionals in a nonprofit setting, where your contributions have a direct impact on community engagement and civic awareness.

Interns & Volunteers "Putting The Neighbor Back In The Hood" Docuseries
Are you passionate about creating positive change? The Hip Hop Foundation invites dedicated volunteer videographers to help produce our new weekly docuseries, "Putting the Neighbor Back in the Hood." This program, launching in April 2025, will spotlight Philadelphia's nonprofits making a real difference through music, education, and community programs.
About This Program:
“Putting The Neighbor Back Into The Hood", is a docuseries awareness segment that focuses on shining a spotlight on music, and educational based programs in the Philadelphia community. Using radio, TV, documentaries and films as creative outlets, our initiative is set to help organizations that need constant media tools to help promote their great works in our neighborhoods. Our program will offer cutting edge ideas, & promotional strategies to our community donors.
This segment is broadcast weekly on The Hip Hop Foundation website and as a weekly radio segment on the Hipolitics Weekly on 98.5 FM WJYN Uptown Radio in April of 2025. Our goal is to feature up to 52 nonprofit organizations in the Philadelphia area that support the arts, per year. The Hip Hop Foundation wants to encourage our community to support the local nonprofits in the area that make a difference in their neighborhood.
As a volunteer videographer, you’ll gain hands-on experience:
Filming & Editing
Film and capture live footage of nonprofit organizations during their programs and community events. Edit weekly videos for airing on 98.5FM Uptown Radio’s Hipolitics Weekly, The Hip Hop Foundation website, and other digital platforms.
Storytelling
Conduct interviews and record testimonials from leaders and participants to help tell their stories authentically. Collaborate with the Foundation’s production team to align with our creative vision and storytelling goals. Participate in planning sessions to develop storyboards and filming strategies tailored to each nonprofit feature.
Build Your Portfolio
As part of our volunteer team, you’ll get an in-depth look at how a nonprofit media organization operates, including broadcasting on FM, AM, and internet radio platforms, and streaming on Roku TV. You’ll also be helping to create impactful content that supports our mission of preserving and promoting hip hop culture while spotlighting nonprofits that are transforming Philadelphia neighborhoods. You’ll work on every phase of production, from pre-interview planning and set preparation to filming live events and post-production editing, ensuring each feature has an authentic and polished look. This is a unique opportunity to expand your portfolio, develop skills in documentary-style filmmaking, and build a network in both the media and nonprofit sectors.
