The Hip Hop Foundation Launches Hipolitics Weekly
A Groundbreaking Radio Show Bridging Hip Hop and Politics
Premiers Sat, April 5th 11am-12:30pm on Uptown Radio 98.5 FM
In a media landscape where cultural movements increasingly intersect with political discourse, Hipolitics Weekly on Uptown Radio 98.5 FM presents a pioneering platform that blends Hip Hop culture with political conversation. This 90-minute radio show will serve as a vital connection point between Philadelphia’s urban communities, local leaders, and activists. By integrating the language and ethos of Hip Hop with discussions on social and political issues, Hipolitics Weekly will drive civic engagement and elevate voices often unheard in mainstream political spaces.
Airing every Saturday from 11 am to 12:30 pm, Hipolitics Weekly will be hosted by Zakariya "T.H.E.” Hardin, Executive Director of The Hip Hop Foundation. As the former host of The IIour Show Uncut, Hardin brings over two decades of experience promoting indie artists and fostering community engagement through radio. The show will feature rotating guest co-hosts from diverse backgrounds, ensuring fresh perspectives and dynamic conversations each week.
The show’s format will offer local businesses, activists, and community organizations a direct line to socially conscious urban audiences. One key feature will be the monthly Hipolitics Town Hall Brunch, a live broadcast event where local politicians and community members engage in open dialogue over a meal, followed by live performances from hip hop artists. This setting provides a unique opportunity for sponsors and community leaders to be at the center of important discussions on political and social issues.
Hipolitics Weekly will tackle a wide array of subjects that resonate with urban Philadelphia, focusing on civic engagement and social justice. The show will feature:
Political Guest Interviews: Conversations with local politicians, political candidates, civil rights advocates, and grassroots leaders on issues affecting the community.
Artist Interviews: Spotlighting hip hop artists and indie stars who use their platform to raise awareness of political and social issues.
Community Leaders: Featuring nonprofit leaders, community organizers, and cultural figures who drive change in their communities.
Community Spotlight: Highlighting nonprofits or businesses using Hip Hop as a tool for community growth and development.
In addition to voter registration drives, discussions will focus on police reform, economic justice, gentrification, educational reform, and the intersection of art and political activism.
Building on the show’s mission of community engagement, Hipolitics Weekly will curate live hip hop concerts and fundraising events, with proceeds supporting local nonprofits and social justice initiatives. These events will strengthen ties between the show, the community, and local artists while driving real-world impact.
Hipolitics Weekly is more than just a radio show—it is a community-driven platform designed to elevate political dialogue in Philadelphia’s urban neighborhoods, while celebrating the powerful role of Hip Hop in shaping cultural and political landscapes. With its unique blend of political discourse, live events, and community engagement, the show will be an essential hub for Philadelphia’s socially conscious audiences, local leaders, and aspiring hip hop artists.
